Legislating Your Way (Out of Anything)

Let's start with a piece from an article at http://www.sovereignman.com/expat/is-this-a-jobs-super-committee/. It says:

Earlier this month, some economic luminaries in the United States Congress introduced a new bill, H.R. 2835. The bill intends to “establish a joint select committee of Congress to report findings and propose legislation to restore the Nation’s workforce to full employment…”

Great idea, fellas.

US$: The Big Pretender

Probably once a week someone asks me about the value of the US dollar and when I either explain it is not doing well or just laugh, they start to tell me how I am wrong. How the dollar is doing fine or the dollar is recovering or whatever. My guess is that many people who enter into this discussion have trouble listening and/or reading so I decided to try to explain this with pictures.

Well, I have now reduced the answer to but one picture. I created it by entering some parameters at http://www.oanda.com/currency/historical-rates/ and capturing the result.

Real Estate Saves Capitalism -- For a While

Check out this TRNN Video. Then, think again about all those good investment options that seem safe from world economic meltdown.

All too often we look at an event ignoring history. For example, the 2008 financial meltdown is considered unique to many.

Thinking About a Resource-Based Economy

I have recently read Looking Forward and other writings by Jacque Fresco (http://www.TheVenusProject.com) and re-watched The Zeitgeist Addendum in an attempt to connect the dots regarding an alternative to the failing money-based economy. Fresco, in particular, is saying that we need to transition to a resource-based economy. While one needs to do a lot of reading to understand what this really means and why it could actually work (which I encourage), here is a short introduction so you can at least understand what I am talking about.

Zeitgeist Addendum

There are two movies here, one called Zeitgeist and the other Zeitgeist Addendum. They are available for free on the Internet or you can buy them on DVDs for $5. The advantage of the DVD is that it has subtitles in a bunch of languages. Apparently, the DVD also has the movie dubbed in Spanish.

If you feel something is wrong with the world/the way the world is going, I highly recommend watching at least Zeitgeist Addendum. Is it political? No, it is actually anti-political.
