Reincarnation

Many if not most religions support the idea of reincarnation. The major modern exceptions seem to be Christianity and Judaism. After listening to quite a few of the Open Mind radio programs from the 1980s (which I blogged about here about a month ago), it seems that neither of these religions is really an exception. That is, current marketing may be anti-reincarnation but historically that is not the case.

The exception with regard to Christianity was voiced by Bill Jenkins, the moderator of the programs. He is an ex-minister and in one of the programs offered lots of bible references that support the idea that reincarnation was in Christian thinking. I believe he said it was about 500AD when the church decided to remove reincarnation from Christian teachings.

Yesterday, I was listening to another program from this series. It is with Dr. Philip Berg talking about the Kabbalah. (Note that there are quite a few alternative spellings.) The Kabbalah is ancient Jewish scripture. From what Dr. Berg is saying, it sounds very much like the Taoist view of God and reincarnation.

This post is not intended to offer the answers. It is just here to point out that if you are serious about a religion, it seems like you may need to do your homework to find out what it was about before the marketing people were in charge.
