I'm glad I live in Nicaragua, not the US

I moved out of the US 9 years, 11 months and 4 days ago. It was right after than 9/11 thing. You know, the one where any attempt at a serious investigation into what happened gets derailed by the government. One major thing that has happened is that I have diversified my news sources. It doesn't take too long for you to realize that big corporate media in the US (and I will include PBS and NPR in this) are there to follow the party line. That is, to show you that your position is represented even though it may not be the most popular.

Well, give me a break. The US is so out of step with the world it is downright scary. The US government either buys its friends or threatens to have other countries agree with US policy. A good example is the yearly UN resolution to end the Cuba embargo which is only objected to by US and a few of its client states. The good news, up until now, is that this psychotic government had tended to only harass those outside the US. For two examples of leaders who went from friend to foe and had to be dealt with we need look no further than Noriega of Panama and Hussein of Iraq.

Well, apparently too many usanos (US citizens) are waking up to government games. That is, the people who are supposed to elect the government to represent them seem to have noticed a problem. Will the government mend its ways to represent the US population? It looks like the answer is no.

Economic Policy Journal has an article about an amazing piece of legislation that Obama is apparently about to sign that will make Gunatanamo-style indefinite detention for US citizens with no charges the norm for US Citizens. It's crazy that this is on the way but crazier that US citizens are letting this happen.
